Participatory spaces. Negotiating cooperation and conflict in documentary projects

Last October I defended my PhD thesis, Participatory spaces. Negotiating cooperation and conflict in documentary projects. Here’s the ultra-short summary:

Participatory spaces evaluates the academic discourse on documentary filmmaking ethics, by confronting it with an empirical investigation of author documentary filmmaking. Using mixed methods, it shows how in such practices both the filmmaker and the participants are involved in the project and how they deal with conflicting interests. Based on the findings, it argues for a paradigm shift in the debate about documentary filmmaking ethics.
